For Netic, the objective is to combine modern cloud collaboration with full data sovereignty without compromising either efficiency or user experience.

“It is crucial for us to be able to leverage cloud platforms such as Google Workspace without relinquishing sovereignty over our most sensitive data. With TDC Erhverv CloudKey®, we have gained the level of control we need.”

CEO NeticThe challenge
Netic operates and protects some of Denmark’s most critical IT systems, including within the public sector, such as government authorities and healthcare. These environments handle large volumes of critical and sensitive data, which places particularly high demands on both security and compliance.
Parts of Netic’s solutions are based on cloud-based collaboration tools and platforms such as Google Workspace, which enable efficient collaboration across organisations, devices and locations.
However, with an increased focus on data sovereignty – driven by both EU and Danish political agendas as well as regulations such as GDPR and NIS2 – a need has emerged to rethink security in cloud environments. Cloud providers such as Google operate globally and may be subject to third-country legislation which, in certain cases, may allow authorities to access data. This creates an increased need for solutions where organisations themselves retain control over their data – even when it is stored in the cloud. The alternative – establishing parallel solutions or transitioning to on-premises environments – would increase both costs and complexity, while at the same time could reduce the user experience.
It therefore became necessary for Netic to identify a solution that could secure their existing platforms and tools, while also allowing them to continue using cloud technologies.
For Netic, the challenge became clear: how can you retain the benefits of cloud-based collaboration – without having to relinquish full control over your data?
The solution
For Netic, the choice fell on TDC Erhverv CloudKey®, which makes it possible to implement client-side encryption. Data is encrypted before it is sent to the cloud platform and can only be decrypted by authorised users. The encryption keys remain under Netic’s control, while neither Netic, the cloud provider nor third parties are able to access the data.
TDC Erhverv CloudKey® was implemented on top of their existing cloud solution. This required only a short testing phase and could be rolled out quickly without changing employees’ day-to-day workflows.
Netic’s customers are therefore able to continue using Google Workspace – now with the option to activate an additional layer of encryption on sensitive documents.
For Netic, this means that they are able to:
Strengthen trust among customers, particularly within the public sector
Meet stricter requirements for data sovereignty and compliance without changing their technological foundation
Avoid complex and costly alternative solutions such as on-premises or parallel systems
For Netic’s customers – including the public sector, and by extension society and its citizens – this means that:
Sensitive and critical data is protected to the highest standards
Citizens’ data remains under national and organisational control
Authorities are able to use modern cloud-based solutions delivered by Netic without compromising security or compliance
Trust in digital solutions and public services can be strengthened
Requirements from the EU and Danish authorities regarding data sovereignty and data protection can be met in practice
With TDC Erhverv CloudKey®, Netic gains:
Full data sovereignty and control over encryption keys
Compliance with GDPR, NIS2 and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements
The ability to use cloud tools without compromising security
A solution that does not affect the user experience or increase complexity
